New take on Alice in Wonderland

26 Jul

I saw this on a site and I thought it was absolutely amazing.

The amount of detail that has gone into this to create the image from the story it self is unbelievable. That way it looks like an advertising poster until you look closely and can read the story for your self is mind boggling.

It was created by Spineless Classics as an art poster, so it’s available to buy and frame as a timeless piece of artwork. They have also created a few other pieces similar to this such as ‘Hound of the Baskervilles’ and ‘Pride and Prejudice’ but ‘Alice’ is by far my personal favourite.

I will definitely be keeping this in mind if ever I have to create an editorial format for a story. I love how it just works effortlessly. It really does shout at you and make you stop to look.

Here are a few of the others they have created:

A Mid-summer Nights Dream

Peter Pan

Pride and Prejudice

Hound of the Baskervilles

Dont let criticism get you down

18 Jul

So, the thought behind this is that I have recently joined a site where you submit your designs answering competition briefs. Needless to say you get a few knock-backs.

You hear it everywhere, ‘Dont take it personally’ how can we not take it personally?? really?? we (designers) spend hours creating and re-tweaking designs to meet your clients satisfaction. How can we not take it personally when we have spent so long on it??

I read in ‘Advanced Photoshop’ and ‘Computer Arts’ a lot of interviews asking designers how they separate personal and business, a lot of the time they respond by saying they have a blow out (much like this) after they have finished with the client.

Me personally, I dont think you can ever separate yourself from your work. It’s who you are after all.

If any of you are interested in the sites with the design briefs they are either:

Dragon and Friend by Malcolm Brown

7 Jul

This image instantly caught my eye, and I really hope someday I can be as good as this.

The way Brown has textured the dragon, the colours and the scales. Even the smoke looks real. It’s like a photograph.

Images like this is what inspires me in what I do. I want to create images that make people feel emotion.

If I can’t do that myself then I am going to pass on my finds to you lot out there.

Let me know what you think to this image.

Ok so who has been lucky enough to get their hands on CS6??

Good isn’t it. It’s faster and smoother, but thats all on the outside. What about when you dig deeper into it?

Theres an endless number of new and improved actions to help you creative flow. Including the easier to use 3D feature. I’m currently playing with this to improve my 3D skills and will upload my image once its completed.

I’m still getting to grips with the slightly changed screen, as it looks so different, but much better. It isolates your work off from the rest of your desktop, making it clearer to see.

I’m still exploring but ill be sure to keep you posted

Keep Smiling 😀

Fifty Shades. . .

5 Jul

Well the book that everyone is talking about is the Fifty Shades trilogy . . .

and wow it doesn’t disappoint. I have to say though, be prepared for some X-rated descriptions, throughout the whole of each book. It’s a little slow to start off with, but what book isn’t, it’s trying to set the scene. Once it gets going there is NO-WAY you will put the books down.

I went away to Corfu for a week and had finished the 3 books by the time I landed back home. My fella wasn’t too impressed when he sneakily read a page which was quite explicit, he said ‘it’s like porn, written down’

However, don’t let that put you off. It’s an amazing read, and theres a really heartfelt story behind all the sex.

All we need now is the film…Bring It On
